DIY No Hem Skirt

Late, late last Saturday night, I remembered that I had my nieces birthday party the next day!  Of course, no worries, I had finished her gift weeks before…  Ok, don’t judge me when you have as many nieces and nephews as I do it is really east to get behind=)

So, I came across this tutorial on Pintrest from Make it and Love it - fast, cute, no hemming.  Yes, that would be perfect.  I knew just the fabric that would look so perfect, and because I didn’t have any cute, wide elastic I used the waist band from a pair of bright pink pants that I had thrifted for a rag rug I am making.  Okay, so I was all set for a supper fast project.

Got my sewing machine out and realized that in moving I lost the bobbin case.  Okay, ran and borrowed my moms.

Went to my serger.  Realized in moving it had come un-threaded – horrible ordeal for a serger.  Re-threaded.

Serged.  Realized girls had turned all the setting.  Rummaged through my sewing cabinet to find handbook.

My ten minute skirt ended up being quite a bit longer than that, but, when I try it again I *know* I’ll fly through it.  Took a little longer but still turned out cute=)

  • So cute fabric. Loved how you used the pink pants! Love the serger. I saw a small serger for $30 at a yardsale last year. I didn’t have $30 with me and ended up passing on it. I wish all of the time that I had picked it up!

  • Oh, very pretty! Love the polka dots.
I have to get my serger out, but I dread re-threading it too! Ugh.
And I don’t use it enough so I never remember the right settings.

    • One great tip I read was using a permanent marker to circle the setting that you normally use. Of course I didn’t do it when I read it and then had the problem=) I should get up and do that now!
